Old Florida at the tip of Singer Island
Palm Beach Shores occupies the southern tip of Singer Island, with the ocean on one side, the Lake Worth Lagoon on the other and the Palm Beach Inlet to the south. Florida’s easternmost point is here.
The town has many mid-century homes, and many have been restored. About seven in ten homes were built before 1980, according to Census Bureau estimates, and about three in ten went up in the 1960s.
A mid-century roof by the water needs care on two counts: the decking under an old roof, and the salt air on everything metal. We check both.
The town’s own permit rules
Palm Beach Shores uses its own building permit application and does not accept the county universal form. The homeowner and the contractor both sign it in front of a notary. Every contractor registers with the town first, with the town named as certificate holder on the liability and workers’ compensation certificates.
Construction runs Monday to Saturday: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM from October through April, and 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM from May through September.
